1.About the entrance exam

I would like to know more about the AO entrance exam

OIF 's AO entrance exam has three main advantages, such as reduced tuition fees and the ability to study fashion from an early stage, making it a popular entrance exam method with many applicants. For more information, please see the AO entrance exam guide page.

https://www.osaka-bunka.com/bosyu/ao-guide.html

Is it better to apply for the AO entrance exam earlier?

When it comes to entering the AO entrance exam, there is no saying that earlier or later is better. However, there is a possibility that the third round of entry will not be held in departments that have reached their capacity.

Is the AO entrance exam a personal interview?

The AO entrance exam is a personal interview, so please don't rush and speak clearly in your own words.

Is there a dress code for the AO entrance exam interview?

There is no designation from the school. Some people come in uniform.

What kind of questions are asked in the AO entrance exam interview?

The AO entrance exam confirms whether your future goals match your desired department. I would also like to hear about your efforts so far and get to know your personality through conversation.

Is the AO entrance exam held at OSAKA INSTITUTE OF FASHION?

The AO entrance exam will be held either on campus or online, with the SD and BM departments planning to hold the exam on campus in 2022, and the FC, FB and ST departments planning to hold the exam online. If the exam is on campus, it will be held at the school, and if it is online, it will be held from home via Zoom. Details such as the date and time will be contacted individually after AO entry.

How many teachers and candidates will be interviewed?

Regardless of the method of application, OIF 's entrance interview will be conducted by one or two teachers and one applicant. It will take about 15 to 20 minutes to confirm whether your future goals and desired department match. We also want to hear about what you have worked hard on so far and get to know your personality through conversation. We would like you to organize what you want to do in the future in advance and speak clearly in your own words.

I would like to know about the AO entrance exam for Super Designer.

The AO entrance exam for Super Designer consists of an interview and a practical assignment.

During the interview, we check to see if your future goals match your desired department. I'd like to hear about what you've been working hard on and get to know your personalities through conversation. In addition, the assignment training will be assignment training related to "design thinking." Create a design based on a motif and complete a style drawing. Selection will be comprehensively judged based on the applicant's attitude towards the practical training, level of understanding, work produced, etc., as well as an interview.

Is the scope of the scholarship student exam difficult?

The scholarship exam is something that students should learn about in their first year of high school. We usually distribute the question ranges at briefing session of OIF, but we can also mail them to you if you wish!

Can non-high school students take the scholarship exam?

The scholarship student exam is open to anyone who applies by October 30th. There are no age restrictions.

Please let me know if you have any preparation for the entrance exam!

The content will differ slightly depending on the department and examination method you wish to apply for, but for AO admissions, interviews will be conducted for all departments. In AO admissions, we check whether your future goals match your desired department. We also want to hear about what you have worked hard on so far and get to know your personality through conversation. In addition to the interview, only Super Designer will have a practical assignment related to "design ideas". You will take a design idea class and submit a work. We will look at your attitude toward the class and your level of understanding rather than the degree of completion of the work. Also, although it is difficult to give a ratio, we close applications for each department when we reach capacity. We would like you to organize what you want to do in the future in advance and speak clearly in your own words.

Please tell me how to prepare for the entrance exam for Super Designer.

Like other departments, Super Designer has different exam content depending on the entrance examination system, so please prepare according to the following. For AO and recommendation entrance examinations, there is an interview and practical assignment, while for general entrance examinations, there is an interview, practical assignment, and essay assignment.

During the interview, we check to see if your future goals and desired department match. I would also like to hear about your efforts so far and get to know your personality through conversation. In the "assignment training", participants will take a class on design thinking and submit their work. Rather than the degree of completion of your work, we will look at your attitude toward and understanding of the lesson.

For the "Assigned Essay" for general admission, students are asked to write an essay (800 words) based on a topic related to fashion. Selection will be comprehensively determined based on submitted documents and examinations.

To enter Super Designer, is it better to take the AO entrance exam or the general entrance exam?

We recommend the AO entrance exam. Super Designer has a limited number of students, and in many years the capacity is filled during the AO entrance exam period.

* Last year's application deadline was in December, so please be careful about the deadline.

Can I take it in conjunction with university?

All entrance exams for OIF are done exclusively by application. There is still time, so please take your time.

When will the application guidelines be sent out?

We will be sending out the new school guide set to those who have requested it starting from early April. After that, we will send it out about one week to ten days after receiving the request.

2.About admission

I am a working adult, can I enroll?

Working adults can also enroll. If you meet the application requirements, you can take the exam, so please take the exam using the entrance exam method that suits you.

In a normal year, about 15% of the students are not new high school graduates.

Please let me know if there is anything I should do while still in high school before enrolling!

There are many things that you can only do when you are in high school, so please do everything you can! It can be anything from studying to club activities to sports festivals and cultural festivals. It is also important to develop regular lifestyle habits. Be interested not only in fashion, but also in things other than clothes, and absorb a lot of things! It's good to see a lot of good things.

Did many of your students take some kind of art classes or other classes before enrolling?

90% of OIF 's new students have no experience in fashion. There are very few people who have seriously studied fashion. I'm sure there are some who were in the art club or who used to draw as a hobby, but most of them are studying for the first time after entering the university.

Is there anything I need to keep in mind in order to attend OSAKA INSTITUTE OF FASHION?

No matter what you do, enthusiasm, effort, and an inquisitive mind are very important. She is interested in many things, not just fashion, and always keeps her antenna up. I think it's a good idea to be fashionable and check out information on overseas collections and trends.

I just love fashion and have very little experience or knowledge. Is it still okay?

Most of the people who enter OIF have no experience in fashion. You will start studying from the beginning after enrolling, so even beginners are welcome. However, since you are learning things for the first time, it may be difficult at times, but if you keep at it, you will be able to do more and more things little by little. It is very important to have a love for fashion, so please keep that feeling alive. let's work hard together!

3.About tuition fees and scholarships

Is there any support system for tuition fees?

OIF offers various types of tuition support. We have a special student system, AO admission, designated school recommendation admission, career change support system, etc. where the first semester tuition fee is waived for the first year. There are other support systems available, so please click here for more information on reductions and exemptions. https://www.osaka-bunka.com/bosyu/genmen.html

Does OSAKA INSTITUTE OF FASHION have its own scholarship system?

OIF has a scholarship/incentive system for current students. There is a special scholarship system in which the entire or part of the annual tuition fee is paid, and a contest incentive system in which the entire or part of the annual tuition fee is exempted (for those who have achieved outstanding results, such as winning a grand prize in a domestic or international competition). There is. There are other support systems available, so please click here for more information on reductions and exemptions. https://www.osaka-bunka.com/bosyu/shougaku.html

Is OSAKA INSTITUTE OF FASHION eligible for the higher education study support system?

OIF is a school eligible for the study support system. For details on the new system, please refer to the URL below. https://www.osaka-bunka.com/bosyu/shougaku.html#anchor1-0

4.About the characteristics of OIF

Please tell me the advantages and disadvantages of OSAKA INSTITUTE OF FASHION.

The advantage is that you can experience many big stages that can only be found in OIF. For example, My Brand International Exhibition, long-term shop management, collaboration with industry magazines, etc. The experiences and connections you can gain there are unique to OIF. As a result, we are proud of our high employment rate and job prospects. Since it is a vocational school, the fact that it specializes in fashion is both an advantage and a disadvantage. It's not easy to decide before you enroll that what you want to do in the future is fashion. Please think about what you want to do in the future! I'm rooting for you.

What is the difference between Bunka Fashion College in Tokyo and OSAKA INSTITUTE OF FASHION?

OSAKA INSTITUTE OF FASHION and Bunka Fashion College have a "chain school" relationship, and originally made clothes using the same method called Bunka Shiki, but over the years, each school has evolved its curriculum. , now the department structure and class content are different. We have a deep relationship with the chain school association.

Is the employment rate high? Are there many challenges? Can I attend while working part-time?

OIF boasts a high employment rate every year, and many applicants for employment found employment this year as well. Please click here for a list of recent employment opportunities!
It depends on the department and the person, but I think there are many challenges to acquiring skills. It seems that not many students are able to make a strict schedule and proceed with their studies.
There are many students who work part-time, but I think the number of times they work part-time is rather small. Since school has two days off per week, I seem to be attending mainly on my days off.

Please tell us about the differences between OIF and other schools, and if there are any strengths of OIF.

OIF is a school with a long history dating back 77 years, and many of its graduates are active in the fashion industry, so you can experience many big stages that only OIF can offer. For example, international exhibitions for your own brand, long-term shop management, collaborations with industry magazines, and many more. The experiences and connections you can make there are unique to OIF. As a result, the school boasts a high employment rate and job opportunities.

Is OIF class-based?

OIF is based on a class system.

Are there any differences in job prospects and job content between universities with fashion departments and fashion schools?

Vocational schools are directly connected to the industry and provide students with the specialized knowledge and skills needed to succeed in that industry. Therefore, most of our graduates find employment in the fashion and apparel industry. In particular, professional and technical positions such as designers, pattern makers, and seamstresses are mainly filled by graduates of vocational schools.
Compared to vocational schools, fashion universities offer a wide range of learning opportunities, including general education classes and a higher percentage of lecture-style classes. Regarding employment, most students work in sales or general positions, and many students find employment in fields other than the fashion and apparel industry. Please compare prices on each school's homepage.

5.About differences by department

What is the difference between the Creator Department and Super Designer?

Fashion Creator has the largest enrollment among all departments in OIF, and is the oldest and most central department. In the first year, students will learn a wide range of basic fashion knowledge and skills, such as design, pattern making, and sewing, and discover their interests and strengths. From the second year, students will split into highly specialized courses such as "Creative Designer," "Apparel Designer," "Pattern Maker," "Knitwear," "Haute Couture & Stage Costume," and the new "3D Modeler Course" to step up to the career they are aiming for.

Super Designer is a department that trains top designers who can compete on the world stage. In the first year, students learn basic knowledge and skills such as design, pattern making, and sewing, and from the second year, they take on the challenge of expressing their own brand through collections. They launch a group brand and hold sales events at department stores and other venues. In the third year, they exhibit at one of Japan's leading international exhibitions, "NEW ENERGY." They also study abroad in Italy for a short period of time, and through activities that go beyond the realm of students, they acquire the skills to debut their own brand immediately after graduation. In the fourth year, students split into the "Independence & Employment Course" and the "Study Abroad Course."

Which department is recommended to become a sample maker?

If you want to become a sample maker, we recommend Fashion Creator.

Are there any departments where I can study both stage costumes and concert costumes for idols, etc., and get a job in the costume industry?

You can study in Fashion Creator Haute Couture & Stage Costume Course. The school also has job offers for costume-related jobs, so there is a chance to find work. OIF has many opportunities to present your work, so you can make a portfolio of your own work and use it in interviews.

I'm having trouble deciding between Stylist and the creator department. I'd like to know the advantages of each!

OIF 's Stylist offers many internships, allowing students to experience many frontline positions while enrolled. Students can get to know many stylists and have many opportunities. In addition, students can also acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to be able to work confidently as a stylist in regular classes. I think this is a great environment for people who want to become stylists or who want to work in sales, proposing their favorite brand of clothing to customers.
In Fashion Creator, 70% of the classes are spent on design, pattern making, and sewing, and the remaining 30% is spent learning the knowledge and skills necessary to create clothes, such as color, product knowledge, trends, and clothing history. Everything you learn over the three years will be useful when working in the fashion industry. These knowledge and skills can be used not only in professional and technical positions such as designers, pattern makers, and sewing, but also in sales positions and stylists.

After graduating from Brand Management, is it possible to run my own shop?

In Brand Management Shop Development Course, students will open two or three shops over the course of three years. Students will use both real and online shops, taking advantage of the benefits of each. Students will learn all about shop management while they are in school, so it is possible to run a shop on your own after graduation. However, running a shop costs money, and it is not easy.
By the way, in OIF 's shop management, students take on the roles of store manager, buyer, press, and VMD. They research the market and trends, plan the shop, and make presentations to collaborating companies. If the plan is approved, they actually negotiate with apparel manufacturers and make the purchase. They handle all aspects of shop management, from display, PR, sales, and accounting. In addition to overseas buying and online shop management, they also plan events according to the season. Because they manage the shop over a long period of time, they can gain a lot of experience and acquire practical know-how.

If I am interested in both communicating and creating fashion, which department would you recommend?

I recommend Fashion Creator. Design, pattern making, and sewing practice make up 70% of the classes, and the remaining 30% is learning the knowledge and skills necessary for creating clothes, such as color, product knowledge, trends, and clothing history. Everything you learn over the three years will be useful when working in the fashion industry. These are knowledge and skills that can be used not only in professional and technical jobs such as designers, pattern makers, and sewing, but also in sales positions and stylists. If you are interested in a variety of subjects, I think Fashion Creator is a good choice.

Please tell me the content of the buyer course!

In the first year, Fashion Business learn the basics of shop-related matters. From January to February of the first year, students will do an internship at a shop of a famous company or popular brand for about one month to gain on-site experience. In the second year, students are divided into three courses, and the buyer course has classes on buying and accounting management. From around summer, preparations for the original shop for the graduation work presentation will begin, and students will proceed with planning the shop, buying, sales, and PR. In the shop, each student will be in charge of the store manager, buyer, VMD, press, etc., and the buyer will purchase products by visiting exhibitions and researching on the Internet, and will also go to Korea for buying in around November. In the graduation shop, students will operate not only real shops but also online shops. It is possible to open a full-fledged shop, with some stores making 700,000 yen in sales per store.

Which department do you recommend if you want to become a costume designer?

Fashion Creator might be a good choice. From the second year, there is an Haute Couture & Stage Costume course to choose from. In Fashion Creator, 70% of classes are spent on design, pattern making, and sewing, and the remaining 30% is spent on acquiring the knowledge and skills necessary to create clothes, such as color, product knowledge, trends, and clothing history. After learning the basics of how to make clothes and going through the items, you will create and present your own original work. There are many opportunities to present your work, so many people can see it. Your work will be featured on a poster in school guide, so please take a look if you are interested.

6.About the job type

I'm aiming to become a fashion designer! What kind of test should I take? Is there anything else I should do?

There are no particular exams that you need to take before enrolling, but it may be a good idea to study for the color exam. I think it's a good idea to be interested in a variety of things, not just exams, and keep your antenna up. Check out everything from movies, interiors, music, photos, etc. You will have more withdrawals. We also recommend checking out the collection, finding your favorite brand, and getting a feel for the clothes!

Is it better to be good at drawing to become a designer?

Many people are involved in making clothes, so designers need to convey their image to others. It's easier to convey your message if you're good at drawing, so we practice drawing a lot at school, but there are many ways to convey your message in an easy-to-understand manner, such as by posting fabric samples and detail photos, and adding comments. What a designer needs, rather than being able to draw well, is the ability to create as many images of clothing as possible and convey those images to people. If you practice after entering the school, you will be surprised at how much your drawings will improve.

I would like to know more about the job of a pattern maker!

A pattern maker is a person who creates drawings, paper patterns, and patterns. It plays an important role in transforming the two-dimensional design drawings drawn by designers into three-dimensional ones. My pattern teacher said, ``Clothes move and breathe, and they live together with people.'' By knowing the silhouette and materials, you can create clothes that are easy to move in and are comfortable to wear, and you can also change the impression you give on people, such as being cute, strong, energetic, calm, etc. As a pattern maker, I feel very fulfilled when I see the clothes I created through repeated trial and error, such as design, silhouette, TPO, price, and materials, being worn by customers around town. Please feel the fun and joy of making things!

How can I get a job in fashion press or shop press?

Press jobs are rarely available to new graduates, and many start by joining an apparel company. It is common to start working in a general position or sales position, then go through the selection process when the company announces a press position and become a press worker. OIF has a Press & Influencer course in Fashion Business, where students learn the knowledge and skills necessary to work in a shop, while also learning how to improve the image of brands and products using social media and other digital media. Students acquire the know-how and skills to effectively disseminate information and create fans, so many are put in charge of the shop's social media immediately after joining the company.

Do you have a job making costumes for a big company like LDH?

There are some patterns. In the case of a company with many artists and talents, (1) the group company has a company that produces costumes, and that company is in charge of the costume production. ②Original production is done by requesting outside companies and designers outside the group. ③Stylists create original products or lease them. ④Collaboration projects with famous brands and companies, etc. I think most of the basics are ①, ②, and ③. Although not LDH, OIF graduates also provide costumes to artists and talents and are involved as stylists.

7. About the Department [Super Designer]

Please tell us what the strengths of Super Designer are!

This department has a unique curriculum in Japan that allows students to launch a brand while enrolled in school, and the classes are structured in a step-by-step manner to launch a brand. Many of our students' brands are seizing opportunities to succeed, such as closing deals and selling with domestic and international select shops, providing costumes to artists, and being published in magazines.

What is the competition rate for Super Designer?

Since the selection process is divided into several rounds, it is difficult to give a ratio, but there are people who fail every year. Applications close when capacity is reached, and last year's deadline was February.

What is the short-term study abroad program for Super Designer like?

Super Designer 's short-term study abroad program usually takes place in September or October, lasting for about three weeks. After lectures on design techniques and research methods at the Florence Polimoda School in Italy, students will work on creating a collection, and on the final day, all students will receive a certificate of completion. During off-campus training, students will also visit museums such as Armani and Prada, outlets and vintage shops of famous fashion houses, and historical buildings.

Can anyone in Super Designer present their personal brand?

Regarding personal brand announcements, it depends on the event. In most cases, all students who pass the criteria are allowed to present their work, but if the number of students is limited, a selection meeting will be held on campus.
Please click here for a page that summarizes student brands.
https://www.osaka-bunka.com/sd/

Are there any qualifications required to enter Super Designer 's overseas study abroad course?

The study abroad course is an option for fourth-year students and is aimed at those who are planning or considering studying abroad. There are no qualifications required.

8. About the Department [Stylist]

Can I learn how to make clothes in Stylist?

In Stylist, students learn how to make clothes in order to understand the structure of the clothes. They also remake clothes to create the outfits they want for shows and styling shoots.

Can you become a stylist even if you have no sense?

Not all graduates who become stylists or stylist assistants had good taste before they entered the school. After enrolling, study little by little and refine your sense of style.

Do you also do design and pattern making in Stylist?

In Stylist, students also learn about design, pattern making, and clothing construction in order to understand the structure of clothing.

Regarding the job of a stylist, I heard that apprenticeship is required and that the salary is low for the first time. Is that true?

In the case of a stylist, your career begins by joining a stylist's office as an assistant or working as a personal stylist. Salaries vary considerably, and if you work for a popular personal stylist, you may not receive a salary at all. After gaining experience as an assistant, some people become stylists within 2 to 3 years, and from there, there are big differences in work content and personality. Compared to working for a company, your salary as an assistant may be lower.

I want to Stylist, but is it okay if I don't have much knowledge yet? Please let me know if there are any things I should know.

Okay even for beginners. She is interested in many things, not just fashion, and always keeps her antenna up. I think it's a good idea to be fashionable and check out information on overseas collections and trends.

I want to be a stylist for a fashion magazine! Did you go to a fashion magazine company for your internship last year?

During the internship that first-year students participated in from January to February, they participated in photo shoots for several magazines. In addition to magazines, I have also participated in TV commercials, movies, movie production presentations, advertisements, etc. During the stylist internship at OIF, you will work with many stylists, so you will be involved in a variety of projects.
